OAKLAND

WHEN

March 2023

Oakland is a diverse city with something for everyone. This large city—52 square miles—has extensive open public lands, trails, bay shore front, hills and large lakes. Its revitalized downtown showcases headquarters for high tech and other corporations, restaurants, theaters and everything in between. A world class city, it boasts well known Lake Merritt, Jack London Square, the Oakland Zoo and the Chabot Space and Science Center.

Architecture here is as diverse as its residents, from Craftsman, Mediterranean and Tudor style homes to condominiums and live/work lofts. Some of the better-known neighborhoods include Glenview, Montclair, Grand Lake, Lakeshore, Crocker Highlands, Oakland Hills, Temescal, Rockridge, Fruitvale and Dimond.

Three freeways—CA-24, I-880, and I-580—cut through the city, making travel very convenient. There are also seven BART stations, multiple Transbay bus lines, an AMTRAK station and a ferry terminal at Jack London Square.
